The Edible Car Race

Where do teachers come up with some of this stuff? In kindergarten it was the "Kindy 500" where we had to make some kind of vehicle out of a cardboard box (Parker had a very basic looking airplane. You should have seen some of the fancy, decked out vehicles parents were coming up with for their kids, not this mom though.) This time it was an edible car race. I am so not creative when it comes to this kind of stuff - you had to use all edible items to make a vehicle that actually had to have wheels that moved, etc. You could use glue, toothpicks, and that kind of stuff to put it together. Well this is what we came up with - at least Parker was happy enough with it & those lime wheels did actually work so his car made it down the ramp. Parker named it the "one eyed Willie" (because it had a cyclops gummy eye - left over from halloween, sticking out the front of it.) I think our next "big" thing is the wax museum the kids take part in for 5th grade (by dressing up as a famous character & talking about their life or something.)

Posing (or picking) for the Camera

Does anyone else have problems getting their kids to look decent when taking their picture? I either get one of them doing a silly face, pouting, crying or picking their nose (if you look closely at Paxton, while sitting in his chair.)

Memories of High School

When I was at spin class yesterday morning the instructor played Paula Abdul's newest song (I heard it on American Idol but can't remember the name of it now) and then as a blast from the past "Straight Up." Immediately following was Bobby Brown's "Don't Be Cruel." Boy did these songs bring back memories of being younger - of loving all of Bobby Brown's songs (he wasn't even cute but boy could he dance & those pants with the crotch hanging to the knees were way cool), Susie - who could do all these dance moves with perfection, and the running man. To make it perfect she could have played a Milli Vanilli song & I would have been set. Ahhh, the good ole days.

It's an American Idol Night

I normally do not watch much TV but when American Idol season comes around I find myself watching it every Tues (to watch the guys), Wed (to watch the gals), and Thurs (to see who gets voted off.) My kids are really good about even watching it with me. I'm so happy to see 2 LDS people in the top 24. They are great and I have a feeling that David Archuleta is going to take the whole thing. I have to admit my most favorite though is the Aussie - Michael Johns. Did anyone see him do Bohemian Rhapsody during Hollywood week? That was AWESOME!!!! Simon, by far, is my favorite judge. I love to hear what he is going to say each week to each contestant because he never holds anything back (and I love his accent.)

Noteworthy Things that Happened to me in 2007

Since my blog wasn't around at the beginning of the year when most look back and reflect on the past year, let me do that now. (This also gives me something else to post since I'm grasping at straws to find things to post w/out any updated pics of the kids or anything.)
I'll just list the first few things that stand out to me:

1-I started working from home which was a wonderful thing for me. Who doesn't want to wake up and work in their PJ's? But more importantly, I have flexibility and can be here for my boys all the time now!

2-I went and saw WICKED in May out in Denver, CO. For those of you that have not seen it, you are missing out! It was incredible and I want to plan a trip for this year to fly out to CA and see it there! Anyone want to join me?

3-I lost 22 lbs between the end of Oct and end of December. I'm still working on losing more but it is motivating to have that much weight gone. It has made me love to work out & go to the gym every day. Thank you Amber, aunt Judy & cousin Shar for motivating me to go from the beginning by being there every morning for me.

4-I got a new couch. After 13 yrs of having one couch & 9 yrs for the other I decided I needed something new. I LOVE it! Check out the pic - pretty nice huh? (Ignore that I didn't cut the tags off everything before taking a pic.)

5-After 13+ yrs of marriage Eric and I have separated. We are still amicable & plan to keep it that way, esp since kids are involved. So if any of you see Eric around please be nice and say hi - he needs those friendly gestures I think and there are NO hard feelings between us.

Eagerly Anticipating

OK - so for this week the thing I'm looking forward to the most is seeing the movie "The Other Boleyn Girl" - isn't Eric Bana HOT, HOT, HOT??? I read the book (by Phillippa Gregory) and really enjoyed it, so I'm excited to see how the show turns out. From the previews it looks hot and passionate - just up my alley!!!
On a side note I found out that Eric Bana is also starring in a movie they are making based on one of my favorite books (The Time Traveler's Wife) due out at the end of the year so I'm very excited for that too!!! He and Rachel McAdams are great actors to play the characters Henry & Claire. That will be another hot & passionate one I think. :)

Things I'm not looking forward to:
Speaking in Sacrament as well as having to teach Relief Society ON THE SAME DAY! I don't have to worry about it this Sunday but the following Sunday (the 9th), but of course I'm stressed about it already and think about it daily, knowing I need to start preparing now.

My kids make me laugh

Anyone that has kids will agree that they can say some amusing things. What I need to do is document these "funny" things better since I forget them too quickly. For example the other day one of Parker's friends started teasing him by saying "your mom is getting remarried." Well normally Parker would get all upset & mad about this but he said to me, "Mom, I didn't get mad at all. Instead I said "yep, and his name is Willy Martinez." I just started laughing when he told me this story. Not only am I not divorced (we are separated) but apparently Parker has me hooked up with quite possibly, an illegal alien. I don't know where Parker came up with that name out of the blue, but Willy if you are out there I'm not available, sorry. :)

First time post to the blog

Finally, I did it! I have thoroughly enjoyed everyone else's blogs for months now (yes, you can call me a blog stalker - I'm harmless though I promise) that I finally set up one of my own.

This blog is dedicated to writing about myself & life happenings as well as updates on my 2 boys - Parker who is 9 and Paxton who is 4, hence the name of the blog since I didn't have anything creative to call it.

My blog won't be as interesting as the rest of yours since I am a bit of a boring person & not too good at taking pics of the boys but I'll do my best & hopefully improve as time goes on.

Currently the camera batteries are dead so any pics I post will be a month or two old (yes, you are recognizing this pic of the boys as the one I put on the Christmas card this year.) But it's official, I'm a bona fide blogger now - yahoo!!!
