This year our ward did not do the usual trunk or treat with the stake but decided to do something on a ward level and came up with a "trek" or treat. This consisted of having the ward meet up at the local walking path & enjoy hot dogs & hot chocolate. Then the plan (I thought) would be to spread out around the path so the kids could walk along & trick or treat. Everyone ended up huddled at the beginning though so the kids quickly came back to you several times because there really wasn't anywhere else to walk to. The exception was the Primary President (dressed as Glinda the Good Witch) who had regular sized candy bars so was very "popular" with the kids. She made it more of a challenge in that you had to walk 3/4 the way around to get to her. Honestly though this year my kids didn't care too much for the trek or treat.

We are a bunch of scurvy, groovy, nerdy, glamourous, wicked gals aren't we??

So we then headed up to Brian's house and Brian took the boys around his neighborhood to show them how real trick or treating is done. His neighborhood is a lot of fun - they give out things like king size candy bars and soda pop but the best thing are the decorations. Their yards are decked out like graveyards with flying ghosts & other cool things like that. Here are some fun pics of Brian's next door neighbor's yard & house.
I love how Parker seems freaked out by this dude in the coffin but Paxton thinks it's cool & is trying to pull his own head off.
When she opened the door to the trick or treaters her entry way was decorated like this with a fireplace & cool halloween decor everywhere & fog misting up the room. After doing some trick or treating we all bundled up in blankets & listened to some ghost stories on the radio (Coast to Coast) which made for a fun end to Halloween night 2008!
